ECU-Line UK Ltd is based in Eastleigh and specialises in LCL (Less than Container Load) maritime consolidation services. It is part of an international shipping and logistics group that is the world's NVOCC (non-vessel operating common carrier) market leader, with 190 offices in more than 90 countries.
Managing Director for ECU-Line UK, James Pearson, said, “We have used Rothmans for over 10 years after they were recommended to us as a firm that not only offered value for money, but would be able to provide a more personal service than that provided by our previous accountants.
“Importantly, Rothmans understand the way we work in that the freight business is totally different from other manufacturing sectors. They offer us a hands-on service that we can rely on for day-to-day support and guidance.”
Initially, Rothmans provided a corporation tax compliance service for the company and subsequently became its auditors, reporting to the group auditors for the parent company, based in Mumbai, India. ECU-Line is listed on the Indian stock exchange and has numerous offices located throughout the world, and it is vital that the UK audit is presented in a timely fashion.
Daren Laidlaw said, “Rothmans act for numerous UK subsidiaries, which form part of overseas-owned groups. Efficient auditing and a good level of local support are key features of these clients.
“We are always conscious of the group auditors’ requirements and will meet their timetable by carefully planning our work to coordinate with each stage of the group audit.”
The continuing successful growth of ECU-Line UK’s export and import business has led to a doubling in the number of its staff in the past four years. Rothmans provide support with a range of services for the company, including the monthly payroll and tax planning advice.
In response to customer demand for a new full container load service, Rothmans provided corporate structure advice, which was tailored to Ecu-Line’s unique circumstances and objectives. The firm also dealt with the formation and subsequent administrative compliance issues.
“As a company, we never look to stand still and we are always innovating,” James Pearson said. “We value the fact that Rothmans are always there to advise and support us. We have a very close relationship with the whole team and I regularly meet with Daren Laidlaw, which gives me further useful opportunities to discuss any issues as well as our plans for the future.”
