BBC radio listeners put some ‘taxing’ questions to Rothmans Tax Partner

Pop music, eBay trading and inheritance tax – just some of the wide-ranging issues BBC Radio Solent listeners wanted advice on from Julian Sims, Rothmans Tax Partner, when he joined Sasha Twining’s programme on the ‘Ask the Expert’ slot recently.

Julian has often been a guest on the radio station to comment live on the budget and other tax news. He also writes for technical publications and tweets on tax matters as @jlsTax.

This latest broadcast was a busy one for Julian, packing in a number of personal and business tax and accounting questions from listeners.

Queries included finding out how to reclaim tax on US royalties from a pop song, wanting more information as a self-employed trader on the new ‘Making Tax Digital’ project, the new Inheritance Tax exemption, the benefits versus costs of voluntary VAT registration and the tax treatment of eBay and similar trading.

If these questions raise concerns about your own circumstances, or you have any other tax issues you would like to discuss, please call your usual Rothmans contact or one of our Tax Team.

Julian will also be appearing next on BBC Radio Solent on Thursday 16 August at 12 noon.
