A Southampton-based businesswoman carving out success in the growing virtual reality industry has won the Rothmans-sponsored national award for New Business of the Year in the Venus Awards, known as the ‘working women’s Oscars’.
Samantha Kingston set up her specialist marketing company, Virtual Umbrella, a year ago, scooping the Venus regional award before going on to win the national title.
Seventy regional winners competed in a range of categories, with national winners chosen from nearly 5,000 nominations and nearly 6,000 votes.
After receiving the crown, Samantha commented: "I am so surprised and honoured to have won this award. I really hope this inspires other entrepreneurial women to go out and follow their dreams. I am now living my dream by starting my own company."
Rothmans Partner, Sue Sullivan, said: “We are delighted that Samantha has won this accolade. As a successful entrepreneur working to find the next big thing in virtual reality, her agency was created to help small developers and businesses raise awareness for their products and services and she also really works to encourage women to work in the fields of technology and gaming. We wish her every continued success in business.”
