New Director Appointed at Rothmans Havant

Rothmans has announced that Julian Sims has been appointed as a director at the Havant office. Julian, who lives on the edge of the New Forest just outside Fordingbridge, joined Rothmans earlier in 2012 as Senior Tax Manager. He has worked in the profession locally for 27 years, training as a Chartered Accountant and Chartered Tax Adviser and then spending seven years with a long established firm in Salisbury. In 1998 he joined a growing Southampton firm where he became Director in 2004, taking a growing tax and technical role as the firm developed.

For the last few years, Julian has provided live comment on Budget Day with Radio Solent and also writes occasionally for professional publications. During his career, Julian has always dealt with a wide range of work and, while continuing to be involved in audit and accounting services to business clients, has seen an increasing amount of his time spent on tax planning, transactional advice, tax enquiries and litigation matters, as well as business valuation and expert witness work. He also continues to provide specialist advisory services to other accountants.

“At Rothmans, I look forward to working with our clients, whether business owners or individuals, by bringing a commercial view to their tax affairs,” Julian says. “When considering the tax arrangements of a business or individual, it is vital that the commercial or family realities of the situation are put first. It has been a pleasure to join the strong tax team led by James Shaw at the Havant office.”

One of Julian’s clients is Southampton-based Stellar Research Services Ltd, whose Managing Director, Julia Richardson, comments: “Julian has worked with me from the formation of the company and its involvement as ‘Team Stellar’ in the MoD’s 2008 Grand Challenge to date and his advice is always made in the context of the commercial realities of our business.”
