Rothmans Havant recently ran a competition with South Downs College to give students experience in applying accounting theory to a real-world commercial scenario; creating a cash budget for a new business start-up.
Georgina Stanley, who was selected as the winner by Rothmans Havant, won £100 and a week’s work experience with them.
Georgina said she would like to thank all the partners and staff at Rothmans for showing her how a real accountancy firm worked. She said, “Rothmans was a great experience as it put all that I had learnt over the year into practice and also added new challenges.”
Georgina also said that her work experience has affirmed her ambition of being an accountant. Richard Hutchinson, a partner at Rothmans, said that the competition finalists showed an impressive level of research and application. He said, “I believe Georgina did a good job on a variety of different tasks. She was keen to learn and not afraid of a new challenge.”
Rothmans and South Downs College have been working together for a couple of years with the partners coming into the College to give a talk to A2 students about career paths in accountancy.
Two South Downs former accountancy students are currently working at Rothmans, while returning to the College as part-time students on the Association of Accounting Technicians (AAT) course.
